Phonological Awareness (PA) Program
Helping your child learn to read is one of the most enjoyable bonding experiences. Doing this right—or getting it done at all—may seem overwhelming or even out of reach. Any parent may wonder if they will ever feel confident and succeed, especially if the child resists.
In our daily routine, time is a big constraint and there’s so much to do in so few hours. Between household chores, work errands, and family outings, can parents carve out consistent time for reading practice?

Upcoming workshop

Ask Dr. Google the question, “How do I teach my child to read?” and one will get more strongly held opinions than evidence-based advice. Further inconsistent recommendations like read-aloud, flashcards, and apps can make you feel uninspired.
In the middle of all this, you might think to leave the whole “teaching-them-to-read thing” to your child’s teachers at school.
But guess what? You have what it takes to do what teachers do at school. Initiate this process by having humility for yourself. With an open mind, you can leverage your time by tweaking your daily routine a little. This will seriously move the needle for your child in the long term. Raising a reader (like raising kids in general) has its ups and downs, but it really can be fun and easy with the right approach, and I am here to offer this support.
In our Roots of Reading program, I help parents/caregivers to start their child’s reading journey with confidence and a solid foundation.
Workshop description
It may be surprising, but learning how to read starts with the ears, not the eyes. Hearing and discriminating sounds comes first, before learning letters. There are five essential components of “reading instruction” but at the very foundation is phonological awareness/ phonemic awareness (PA). Through this program, you will come to know about the scope and sequence of PA based on your child’s prior knowledge. In this small group session, you will learn about pre-reading skills and get in-depth knowledge about the 7 areas of Phonological awareness. Also, to learn about basic foundational skills that a child needs to know before they start reading.
You will be provided with soft copies of files explaining each skill in detail and printable activities.
